And again, I welcome you dear friends, and today we will consider the types of blinds that can be installed on plastic windows, i.e. on the frame or sash of PVC window structures. As always, the article will be as detailed as possible, events will develop gradually and sequentially, so in order not to miss important points, I recommend that you start reading this article from the beginning and to the very end. As usual, I inform you that if you looked at this site hoping to buy something, then unfortunately this is not a commercial resource, but a purely information one. The only thing I can do for you is to advise reliable and trusted manufacturers shutters and shutters on plastic windows in your city, with whom I collaborated, working in the production of blinds. Let's get acquainted with blinds on plastic windows.
Varieties of blinds for plastic windows
In this large section, I have collected all the most common types of blinds for PVC windows. Roller blinds on plastic windows - This is the most popular type of sun-protection systems, you can buy it both ready-made in the shopping center and make it to order from manufacturers. Actually, like everyone else. Horizontal blinds on plastic windows - This is a budget version of products, unless we are of course going to buy this type of blinds made of natural wood or bamboo and install an electric drive in it, which will be controlled, for example, by a “smart home”. And another one of my favorite types of blinds is the pleated blinds. Let's start.
Roller blinds
Roll curtains blinds on plastic windows two systems can be installed (in the video below I will provide them for visual inspection), this is a mini system, it can be either with one fabric cloth or with a double cloth with alternating stripes - this is a mini zebra system.
Blinds for windows of system PVC pass - This is a free-hanging product installed on the sash of a plastic window with an open roll of fabric. There are no guides for this system, instead of them you can use additional fixation of the lower bar, for example, a guide line or magnets. The color of components can be white or matched to a tree.
These products are mounted either on tape, using an additional platform, or on screws. Management can be carried out as a chain mechanism, spring-loaded inertial or automatic, using the built-in drive shaft on its own batteries.

More precisely, the canvas is one, only from below it is bent and the other end of the canvas is also attached at the top to an additional profile. Only the outer canvas is mobile. When winding on a shaft, the strips on the fabric intersect, this allows you to adjust the clearance of the room.

There are two main systems of cassette roll curtains and blinds on plastic windows - this is Uni-1 and Uni-2. Uni 1 with flat guides, and Uni-2 with "P" shaped. Horizontal blinds on plastic windows
Venetian blinds can be not only rolled, but also horizontal. According to the functional features, using this type of product, it is possible to achieve more precise adjustment of the clearance. By turning the lamellas, either a complete darkening of the room is achieved, or slightly ajar, and there will also be no clearance for prying eyes, due to the fact that the lamellas overlap slightly with each other. As well as curtains for plastic windows, horizontal blinds can be either free-hanging or cassette. Only in the second case, the edges of the lamellas do not hide in the guides, but are fixed with a fishing line - a tightly stretched string.
Horizontal blinds Holis or Magnum
Holis or Magnum - free-hanging systems of horizontal blinds that can be installed on the sash of a plastic window, as well as in the opening or on the wall. Slats for blinds can be made of plastic, aluminum, natural wood or bamboo. Installation can take place both on double-sided tape, and on screws or screws. Since this is a free-hanging system, the lower bar must be fixed either with magnets or with plastic, fixed mounts. The rotation of the lamellas around its axis is carried out by a pivoting rod, and the rise of the entire stack of lamellas is performed by the control rope. This type of blinds for plastic windows can be equipped with an electric drive. In this case, the product can be controlled from the remote control, smartphone or smart home system.

If you are not interested in looking at how products are mounted, just look at the overview of how horizontal blinds are controlled on plastic windows.
Isolate or Isotra horizontal blinds
Isolate or isotra on plastic windows - This is a cassette system of horizontal blinds, created specifically for installation on plastic windows separately on each leaf. These systems are very similar, because of this they are located in one section. Blinds have a number of advantageous design features compared to holis and magnum. Lamels of this type of blinds can be plastic or aluminum. The product can be installed either on tape or on screws (it will be more reliable on screws). The entire lamella web is fixed using a guide line. Control takes place using a control circuit. The chain also controls the rotation of the lamellas and the lifting of the entire stack upwards. In order for the stack not to fall, it is necessary to fix the control circuit in the chain holder mounted on the sash of the PVC window.

The entire louvre sheet is fixed by a tightly stretched fishing line - a guiding string. The fishing line is driven into each lamella, as well as into the finish bar. Thanks to this, the blinds do not hang out and do not sag along the entire length.
Blinds corrugation on plastic windows
Corrugated pleated blinds for plastic windows - This is a convenient and very beautiful type of decoration of the sash. Some types of accordion pleats can be installed directly on the double-glazed window of the PVC window frame. Installation is made on double-sided tape. Free-hanging corrugation systems are rarely installed on sashes, often cassette systems are installed. And the first ones are installed on the opening or in the opening, closing the entire frame. But in this case, the opening structure should be absent on the window structure, since the product may interfere with them when opening.
Pleated on plastic windows
Blinds accordion on plastic windows - you probably heard this name more than once. So - this is the blinds pleated, or corrugation. Pleated blinds can be installed on plastic windows of absolutely any design. Rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal, mansard (tilted), large metal stained-glass windows and even round windows. On the round plastic windows, the blinds are installed just in the video, which will be a little lower, look very interesting.

Management is carried out by moving the entire eaves. This type of blinds can open in any direction, from top to bottom, from bottom to top, leaving any part of the plastic window ajar. In the video, the pleated blinds on the sash of a plastic window with two movable cornices, lower and middle. And the top is fixed stationary. This means that from bottom to top this product cannot be closed. If exactly this kind of closing is required, order blinds with three movable cornices. It will be a little more expensive but it will solve your problem.
Velcro blinds
Velcro blinds on plastic windows - This type of blinds is mounted on a special Velcro, it is sold in shopping centers, and quite often people make such blinds with their own hands. They just buy a cloth in the store, one edge of the Velcro is glued to the frame of the plastic window, the other is sewn to the canvas of the material, and with the help of Velcro, the cloth is fixed on the frame of the PVC window.
Double sided tape blinds
Double-sided tape on the window frame - this type of fastening of the blinds is used when, for some reason, you cannot make holes in the frame of the PVC window. You can fix on the double-sided tape almost all of the above types of blinds. Only fastening is less reliable than fastening on self-tapping screws. The adhesive on the tape dries out over time and the blinds may fall off the sash. Also, if the windows face the sunny side, and the product is fixed on the glass packet itself, in this case the adhesive tape from the high temperature can simply soften, which will lead to the same consequences.
Blinds for screws or screws
Blinds for screws or screws - In most cases, screw to a plastic window. Mounting does not violate the thermal insulation properties of the window frame and is the most reliable among all the above.A negative point may be that when the product is dismantled, holes will remain on the window frame, which are easily sealed with liquid plastic. Liquid plastic is sold in hardware stores and differs little in color from the color of your PVC window frames. It was they who patched all the joints of your plastic window.
Features
Blinds appeared a very long time ago. Once upon a time, oriental men covered the windows of their houses with wooden stripes. They allowed sunlight to enter the room, while hiding from prying eyes what is happening inside. So husbands protected the dignity of their wives who did not wear a burqa at home. That is why the word "jalousie" means "jealousy."
Modern blinds are a set of plates that come into motion thanks to a mechanical or electronic control method. In the first case, laces or chains are used. In the second - an electric drive. This option is especially convenient for high windows.
The design fully or partially protects the room from the penetration of light from the outside. Compared to conventional curtains, blinds have a number of valuable advantages:
- Practicality. Blinds are unpretentious in leaving, unlike fabric curtains in need of regular washing. That is why such designs are used in almost all office premises. In addition, ordinary curtains cannot completely isolate the room from the penetration of sunlight. But certain types of blinds are quite capable of this.
This advantage is especially important when watching movies, presentations and other events that require absolute darkness. It will come in handy during daytime sleep.
- Convenience. Electronically controlled designs allow you to adjust the intensity of daylight at the touch of a button.
- Style. The variety of options for blinds allows them to harmoniously fit into the interior, without breaking out of the general environment. This type of window decoration is appropriate not only in the office. Today, blinds are increasingly used in modern home interiors. You can choose any color scheme that can emphasize the atmosphere of the room. And the option with photo printing can bring a special highlight to the interior.
Vertical
This view is characterized by a vertical arrangement of lamellas. The lower part is combined in a chain. Such blinds look especially elegant. Also they visually increase the height of the room.
The design is fixed above the window opening. It is also possible to mount the system on the upper slope or ceiling.
For plastic windows, this type of decoration is rarely used. This is due to the fact that the elements of the system are too close to the glass. This makes their movement difficult.
By changing the angle of the vertical plates, you can smoothly adjust the light intensity. Vertical systems are also more resistant to dust.
Fabric vertical structures are usually weighted for greater stability. Plastic, wood or aluminum structures do not need this.
What it is?
Blinds are a design of adjustable lamella plates, designed to form the most comfortable conditions: protection from bright sunlight and even distribution of air and heat flows. In the interior of a modern room, they play an important role in creating harmony and integrity of the design composition. Environmentally friendly, convenient and practical, in constant dynamics of development and improvement, gaining new functions and capabilities - they have long left traditional curtains and tulles only a mission of decorative elements.
You will learn more about what types of blinds exist in the modern market from the next video.

- The fabric is the most common, and therefore attractive and popular. There are different densities, textures, colors. The most acceptable option is polyester - due to its strength, resistance to fading, and the ability to easily clean.
Management methods and mechanisms
There are several ways to control the process of opening or closing blinds:
- Hand or rope (using a chain or cord), semi-automatic, when a spring is hidden inside the shaft, with the help of which the person's effort decreases when lifting the curtains.
- You can also highlight automatic (electric) way. This option, although expensive, but can dramatically simplify the operation of the structure. Sometimes it is the only management option. The process is carried out using a powerful electric drive installed inside the shaft and placed in the cornice. The electric drive system allows you to more accurately set the degree of illumination you need, as well as manage processes without the expense of time and effort. Types of blinds for the material of manufacture of lamellas
According to the material from which the lamellas are made, blinds are:
Each type has pros and cons, but all of them are characterized by aesthetics, practicality, ease of care. For cleaning it is enough to wipe the dust lamellas with a damp cloth with detergents.
For different rooms fit blinds made of certain materials. In the kitchen, it is better to use aluminum blinds or plastic, provided that the latter are not located near the stove. In the living rooms, wooden structures look elegant, in the bedrooms - fabric. In humid rooms - bathrooms and showers - if they have windows, it is better to use waterproof plastic models.
Pros and cons of metal (aluminum) blinds
Metal blinds are made of aluminum. Aluminum structures are characterized by increased strength and durability. The lamellas can be oriented vertically or horizontally, be dull or glossy, a natural metallic color or painted in a range of RAL colors.
Metal shutters.
Pros of Aluminum Blinds
- Temperature resistance. Unlike plastic models, metal can be installed near an open flame: in the kitchen near a gas stove, radiators, heating boilers.
- Do not fade under UV rays.
- Light weight. Aluminum structures are somewhat heavier than plastic or fabric, but nevertheless they are lightweight.
- They have good resistance to wind loads. With the windows open, they retain their shape, do not wave and do not tremble, like lighter fabric or plastic products.
- The increased durability. Metal strips are convenient in that they do not tear, do not break, do not burn.
- Fire safety. Today it is an important factor for commodities when the market is filled with synthetic materials that release toxic substances during combustion.
- Easy to care. Metal does not absorb fat, does not change its appearance during operation. For cleaning, it is enough to rinse the lamellas with water and ordinary detergents.
- Durability. When used properly, they last longer than other types of blinds.
- Excellent aesthetic properties. Metal structures are relevant in interiors decorated in the style of hi-tech, modern, loft.
Cons of aluminum blinds
- The metal has a high thermal conductivity, therefore, window structures are heated in the summer in direct sunlight.
- With strong gusts of wind, they emit a characteristic metallic knock upon impact of the lamellas against each other.
Aluminum products meet sanitary and hygienic requirements; therefore, they are widely used in medical facilities, in clinics, for decorating cafes and restaurants.
Advantages and disadvantages of plastic blinds
Plastic window blinds are made of white PVC or painted in RAL colors. Plastic blinds are in demand by customers. They are practical, the color scheme is rich, their price is low. Plastic blinds are cheap, so you can often change them.
Plastic blinds.
Pluses of plastic blinds
- They are inexpensive.
- A lot of colors. Manufacturers offer a huge number of canvas colors - calm pastel shades, bright colors, stylized as wood, metal, stone.
- Plastic is practical, hygienic, easy to care for.
- Plastic lamellas are not afraid of moisture, therefore they are used in rooms with high humidity - saunas, bathrooms, showers, bathrooms, in kitchens away from open flames.
- Serve for a long time without losing sight, do not deteriorate.
- Suitable for any interior - residential building, apartment, cottage or office.
- It goes well with fabric curtains, tulle curtains.
Cons of plastic blinds
- Unstable to heat. With strong heating by the sun's rays in the summer heat, the plastic softens, the geometry of the canvas is broken, the products lose their shape. Therefore, they cannot be mounted near heat sources: stoves, ovens, heating radiators, fireplaces.
- Colored lamellas fade in the sun over time, white yellow with time.
- Plastic is more fragile in comparison with other materials, lamellas are bent, sometimes break. If there are animals in the house, they can gnaw through thin plates.
Despite some disadvantages, this is the most suitable type of blinds for plastic windows. The plastic option is suitable for an office, temporary housing or a bachelor’s apartment. Plastic products are inexpensive, they are easy to care for, you can easily replace them when they are tired or out of order. Designs organically combined with fabric curtains that look neat without them.
Advantages and disadvantages of wooden blinds
Wooden blinds are often made from exotic woods - bamboo, cork, Canadian linden. Natural material is more expensive, so its prices are higher. The tree creates a special atmosphere in the house. This is a natural material, its presence in the interior is considered a sign of good taste of the owners, high status, respectability. The lamellas of wooden blinds are made of light wood - bamboo, balsa wood.
Wooden shutters.
Pluses of wooden blinds
- These are environmentally friendly designs that do not cause allergic reactions, do not emit harmful fumes.
- Wood is a beautiful and prestigious natural material. It gives the room a respectable appearance, solidity.
- Perfectly cope with their purpose, protecting the premises from sunlight.
- Unlike metal structures, wooden ones do not overheat under direct sunlight.
- Lamels possess the increased durability and form stability.
- Wood planks are durable. The service life of wood is much longer than plastic models.
- Easy to care. There are special devices for manual cleaning of slats.
- The tree has a low coefficient of thermal conductivity, so wooden structures are warm to the touch.
- They look great in the interior, combined with furniture, especially from solid wood.
Cons of wooden blinds
- Non-moisture resistant. Lamels swell under the influence of moisture and water.
- Prices for wooden models are high.
New types of wooden structures made of valuable wood are constantly appearing on the market.
Pros and cons of fabric blinds
They are made from impregnated fabrics that repel dirt, dust and water. Easy to clean, inexpensive, create comfort in the house. Fabric blinds are only with a vertical arrangement of lamellas. More often lamellas are made of synthetic fabrics, impregnated with water-repellent compounds - polyester or fiberglass. Sometimes cotton, jacquard, linen, viscose are used for their manufacture.
Fabric blinds.
Pluses of fabric blinds
- Create a cosiness in the room. Fabric is a traditional material for window decoration, so fabric curtains are well received by residents and guests.
- Light in weight, unlike metal or wooden structures.
- They are easy to care for due to the presence of dirt-repellent impregnations in the fabric.
Cons of fabric blinds
- Compared to wood, plastic or aluminum systems, they are less durable.
- Because of the light weight, they are inflated by the wind with the windows open - the canvas "trembles."
- The color variety is less than that of plastic structures, although quite large.
The color and texture of the fabric are diverse. Fabric blinds are more suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, studios, dining rooms, but they are less commonly used in kitchens. The standard height of fabric slats is 180 cm, they can be shortened to the height of the window. To change the length of the strip, it is enough to remove the weighting agent from the lower end and cut off the fabric. Then below you need to make a pocket where to insert the weighting agent.
White blinds
Blinds of bright colors are widely used both in residential buildings and in offices, public buildings. This is a universal color that harmoniously combines with all others.
Color blinds
Plastic and aluminum lamellas are painted in any colors according to the international RAL scale. A wide selection of colors allows you to choose products that match tone-on-tone to the color of the walls or, conversely, make them contrasting.
Combined blinds
The combination of horizontal blinds is done through the use of slats of different colors. As a result of a combination of 2-3 or more colors in one canvas, live and original compositions are obtained.
Examples of combined horizontal blinds:
The combination of vertical blinds can be carried out both by using lamellas of various colors, and by gluing fabrics of different colors, resulting in a two- or three-color lamella.
Examples of combined vertical blinds:
Photo Blinds
Photo printing can be applied to plastic or fabric slats. Photo printing can be graphic (1-2 colors) or multi-color.
Examples of vertical blinds with photo printing:
Examples of horizontal blinds with photo printing:
When choosing blinds in the color of the walls, ceiling or other structural part of the room, experts recommend choosing products two to three tones brighter or darker. In this case, they do not merge with the plane of the walls, they look natural, the interior comes to life.
Contrast color is chosen if the whole environment is sustained in one shade - light or dark. If a lot of diverse colors are used in the interior decoration, then window dimming designs are best chosen to match the tone of the main one.
If there is a difficulty in choosing a gamut, then the sure-fire option is white. White blinds will always go well with wall decoration, furniture texture.
Wave
The lamellas of these models have edges with wave-like curvatures, in contrast to squared bars. Blinds "wave" - a relatively new product on the market. They are made of aluminum, can be horizontal or vertical. The wavy shape of the planks creates a fancy play of light and shadow in the room, which increases the attractiveness of the product.
The unusual shape of the slats allows you to revitalize the interior, add coziness to it, and relieve excessive rigor and coldness of metal. Such designs are often used for the bedroom and living room. The rejection of rectangular shapes allows designers to create a special mood in the room.

With perforated lamellas
There are many small holes along the entire plane of the lamellas. More often, holes are punched evenly, at the same distance from one another, sometimes creating a graphic pattern or geometric pattern on the canvas. Perforated structures are made of aluminum, are horizontal or vertical.
Perforation allows light to be transmitted even through a closed sheet, diffused sunlight penetrates into the room, creating a pleasant, calm atmosphere. During the day, when closed, the perforated curtains will protect people in the room from the sun without completely blocking the light output.
Special types of blinds
In addition to the traditional types of blinds for standard window or doorways, special designs are available:
- Arched.
- Interframe.
- With electric drive. Allow you to automate the management process. The canvas opens and closes by the user at a distance.
Interframe constructions
Interframe blinds are built in between the panes at the glass production stage. As a result, the user receives a filter protected by glass from dust. The blinds installed between the windows are inaccessible for children and animals, therefore they last longer. In addition, these inter-frame models are perfectly combined with traditional curtains, tulle, curtains, as they do not interfere with the movement of fabric curtains along the window. Some manufacturers include cassette models that are fixed to the sash to inter-frame blinds.
Electric models
You can install an electric drive of Chinese or European manufacture to automate the process of opening / closing blinds on any window. System management can be remote (radio-controlled) or wired. The operating voltage of the equipment set is standard 220V or safe 12V. Automatic control is especially convenient if the windows are large, non-standard or dormer-mounted, tilted.
In addition to the usual wired and remote control systems, automatic ones have appeared on the market today. They have sensors for determining the amount of light output. Systems open or close the blinds independently, depending on the degree of illumination of the room. Such models are used in smart home systems.
What are the blinds on the windows: all types
Not so long ago we saw blinds, mainly in offices, and at home tulles and cloth curtains hung on the windows. But with the advent of various types of blinds, these designs began to displace the usual curtains for us from the home interior.
After all, they not only reliably protect rooms from sunlight, but also harmoniously fit into the interior design. In this article, we will consider what types of blinds are for windows, all types of these structures, talk about materials and colors, note the main advantages, and also turn to recommendations and practical tips for choosing blinds.
Window blinds are excellent protection against the sun, excessive stuffiness, street lamps and bright daylight. They are made of different materials and have an extensive range of colors. To date, there are 12 varieties of blinds.
- Vertical. This type of blinds is equipped with slats of different sizes, from narrow strips to wide panels. With their help, you can somehow adjust the amount of light penetrating into the room, opening access in whole or in part. Such curtains serve for a long time and are used both in residential premises and in office facilities. Their only negative is the closed access to the windowsill.
- Horizontal This is the first type of modern blinds to appear on the market. Their main advantages: reasonable price, easy care, resistance to moisture and sunshine, they do not absorb kitchen aromas and are very convenient for a window sill with flowers. Looks great as an addition to curtains. Horizontal blinds easily fit into any style and design of the room. Of the minuses: fragility.
- Roll. Roller blinds adequately replace standard curtains, because they do not crease, repel dust and are very convenient to roll into a roll. This design does not break, goes well with any design and rolls very conveniently. The main plus of roller blinds is a continuous canvas that neatly closes window openings. There is only one drawback: they are difficult to care for.
- Pleated. Pleated blinds are distinguished by an original and exquisite design in the form of an “accordion”, which is very convenient when folding the structure. This option is suitable for almost any interior of the room, and it’s not only the versatility of the model. Such blinds are easily cleaned from dust and stains and are initially saturated with a special antistatic agent, which allows them to maintain their original appearance for a long time.
- Attic. This name speaks for itself - such structures are ideal for roofs, attics, verandas and various types of attics. They adhere perfectly and do not sag, and for oblique windows made obliquely will serve as an ideal solution. This is perhaps the only option when you can be sure that the structure will not settle, fall, fall through, hang down and cause any inconvenience.
- Arched. A great option if your windows are made in the form of arches. Lamels can be both horizontal and vertical. Roll designs that can fit the size of arches will also fit perfectly into the design. The latter option, if desired, can be used for a picture or ornament that is most suitable for the interior. Prerequisite for installation: this should be done by a specialist.
- Interframe. Such constructions are very rare models, as they are used mainly for windows in old houses. Their function is to save space, clean windows and the ability to open each leaf. For adjustment, a specially designed flexible control is used, which is installed between the glasses. The main plus: with a minimum area, such blinds can save space.
- Photographic. A chic option with which you can apply any desired pattern to the blinds in accordance with individual preferences. It all depends on your imagination, the main thing is not to overdo it. Consider the fact that for window openings you select a design in accordance with the overall interior. You can order any pattern or drawing, but do not forget about the style of the interior.
- Multifactorial. This type of window structures is considered the most spectacular, because their advantage is that the details of the blinds seem to “overlap” each other. The result is original patterns and ornaments. These types of blinds are suitable if you are a fan of original solutions in the design of the room. The main plus: here you can experiment with colors in accordance with the overall interior.
- Roman. This is a very convenient and comfortable type of window construction, similar to a pleated, only in this version the blinds fold when folded into wide folds. Such a model can be selected in almost every interior, as well-chosen Roman curtains will ideally fit into any room design. But there is a significant minus - they do not like hand washing, only dry cleaning.
- With electric drive. This view is the most modern because it is equipped with a special button, thanks to which you do not have to twist anything manually. It is enough to use the automatic button - and the window blinds will rise and fall when you want. This type of window construction is convenient to use and is suitable for almost any window, regardless of model, texture and materials.
- Protective. This option is intended primarily for protection functions, for example, for a garage or balcony. A similar structure is made mainly of metal or other equally durable material. The main function of such structures is maximum protection, whether it is an office or a private house. Protective blinds are resistant to any temperature conditions, easy to clean and have an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Materials used for blinds
We considered all the options, what are the blinds, now let's talk about the materials from which these structures are made.
First of all, it is worth noting the main advantage: all of them are impregnated with antistatic dust-repellent and water-repellent agents.
Thanks to this, it is much easier to take care of the blinds - they do not deteriorate from heat and dampness, the spots are easily cleaned with a sponge and vacuum cleaner.
- Plastic. Such curtains are universal - the lamellas close tightly, not letting in the light, the material does not heat up and is perfectly washed, and the blinds themselves look great with tulle and curtains. The color of the structure can be different, and choosing a suitable model for the interior is not difficult. But there is also a minus - plastic is subject to fragility and deformation, therefore the cost of such blinds is relatively low.
- Aluminum. These blinds are good in that they do not corrode, are strong enough, can be cleaned from stains and dust, are resistant to moisture and temperature changes, look great in any interior. Among the shortcomings, it can be noted that the lamellas heat up during a very hot time, which makes the room stuffy.Aluminum structures are often used in clinics, schools and kindergartens.
- Fabric Blinds. As for these blinds, their main advantage is that they are not afraid of sunlight and do not fade. They are easy to clean (although taking care of them takes a lot of time), fabric blinds are practical and decorate the room very beautifully. Due to this, as well as a variety of colors, window structures made of fabric are in high demand. But there is one drawback: they have a high cost.
- Tree. This is a very effective material, durable and light, covered with a protective layer of varnish. Wooden blinds in any room create a homely atmosphere, bring coziness and comfort. But, before purchasing window structures made of wood, it is important to consider that such curtains are not recommended for use in the kitchen, especially close to the stove, since they do not tolerate moisture, quickly absorb fat and food aromas.
- Jacquard. We are talking about fabric polyester - a very dense and high-quality material. If we talk about the appearance, then the jacquard blinds are multi-colored threads woven into the fabric. Such constructions are strong enough, ideally fit under plastic windows, repel moisture and dust. Due to the fact that the blinds are made of environmental materials, they are often purchased for children's rooms.
- Bamboo. It is a very light and yet durable moisture resistant material. Bamboo blinds lend themselves perfectly to cleaning, bring a room of comfort to the room, look very impressive in the interior and even, as they say in eastern countries, take away all the negative energy. Models can be anything, each of them will decorate the room. Of the minuses: blinds made of bamboo are not cheap.
Practical tips for choosing blinds
We found out what types of blinds are of all kinds, and the choice of model depends on personal preferences and financial capabilities.
Finally, we draw your attention to the main recommendations that will come in handy when acquiring window structures.
Do not buy blinds just because you really like them - think about whether they will fit the interior of the room, will they be in harmony with the overall design? Also, calculate all the measurements in advance so as not to purchase curtains, which then will not work, otherwise you will have to change them.
Consider the presence of indoor plants in pots that require access to the windowsill. And pay attention to the functionality of the slats, which way they open, this can be important.
The main advantages of horizontal blinds
One of the many features of horizontal blinds is functionality. They will help to hide from the sun even in rooms with windows that are non-standard in shape due to various modifications.
This will enable you to choose horizontal blinds specifically for your windows. They were designed for plastic windows that became favorite and popular. Due to the fact that they are mounted directly on the window, horizontal blinds save space and fit perfectly into any room.
Clear fixation gives them another advantage over vertical blinds: they are not afraid of the wind, they will not be inflated by air currents.
Horizontal blinds are unpretentious in leaving, convenient in management and the address. These qualities will certainly save your time and nerves.
Care for wooden horizontal blinds
If you prefer horizontal blinds made of wood, then when cleaning you will need to use a dry soft cloth. You can also use a soft brush on the vacuum cleaner.
In order to save money on the purchase of this very expensive type of blinds, you need to remember the golden rule: they require very careful handling.
It is worth forgetting about water when cleaning, because this carries the danger of not only losing the color of the lamellas, but also swelling from moisture. Sometimes, for cleaning this type of blinds use specialized products designed to care for unvarnished tinted surfaces of wood. This allows you to wash them with mildness. They can also be removed from the cornice and cleaned on a horizontal surface.
To ensure the durability of the structure, it is necessary to lubricate the ledges of the cornice with silicone grease once a year (and more often).
Care for horizontal aluminum blinds
Unlike all other types of blinds, horizontal aluminum ones do not require any special care. For washing you will need a soap solution and a soft cloth. Or the soft brush of a vacuum cleaner.
In the case of global pollution, the lamellas can be removed from the structure and placed in the bathroom with a warm soapy solution, where it can be washed. Then they must be returned to the window. It’s worth noting that the cornice itself cannot be washed with water, this can damage the moving mechanism.
Lamella material
Lamels of vertical blinds come in two sizes: “European” - 127 mm wide - and “American” - 89 mm.
Our tip: for large windows and as interior partitions it is better to use blinds with wide louvres, for small openings - with narrow ones.
Typically, the louvres of vertical blinds are made of fabric or plastic, less often - of wood or aluminum.
Fabric Blinds
Fabric is the most popular material for vertical blinds. In our country, fabric blinds are the most popular. Apparently, the matter is in habit and in love for all kinds of curtains and curtains.
Fabric lamellas are different in density, color, texture, but most often they are made of polyester - a durable material that practically does not fade in the sun and is easy to clean.
Adherents of all natural can recommend cotton lamellas. Just keep in mind that after several cleanings, the impregnation will gradually come off and the fabric may get hooked.
The fabrics for lamellas on our market are produced in France, Belgium, Spain, the USA, England, Poland, China, Ukraine and Belarus. Of course, domestic fabrics are cheaper than imported ones. But there were times when unscrupulous sellers gave cheap Chinese fabric for expensive French.
In order to avoid such a forgery, I advise you to deal only with well-known companies that have long been working in the market, who will assume all obligations for warranty service.
When choosing between inexpensive non-woven materials (at $ 8-10 / sq.m) or exquisite jacquard with complex weaving of threads (at $ 20-40 / sq.m), you need to pay attention to the density of the material.
Our advice. The higher the density of the fabric, the longer the lamella will retain its presentation: it does not deform, does not warp, and does not stretch.
Although the higher the density, the naturally higher the price. Non-woven material is cheaper than woven, but it does not tolerate moisture well and gets dirty more quickly. We must also take into account the fact that printed fabric is cheaper, but it burns out faster in the sun. If the pattern is woven on fabric (a variant of jacquard weave), it is more durable.
Where increased fire safety requirements are imposed (for example, in the kitchen), it is best to hang blinds made of fiberglass, which does not burn in the fire, but as if is sintered, does not smoke and does not emit harmful substances.
Fiberglass does not need to be treated with dust-repellent impregnations, unlike ordinary fabrics, which are necessarily coated with moisture-proof and antistatic compounds at the production stage (this, however, does not apply to the cheapest materials - at $ 5 / m2).
Plastic blinds
The main advantage of plastic blinds: they do not bend “to all winds to spite” and hold their shape well, unlike fabric blinds. But the disadvantages of plastic blinds directly depend on the price.
The cheapest (at $ 14 per sq.m) are quite fragile and not very resistant to temperature extremes: under the bright rays of the sun, they heat up and begin to turn yellow.
Blinds made of good quality plastic are devoid of these disadvantages, but they cost from $ 20 / sq.m. Usually they are bought in offices, and houses are hung in the kitchen or on glazed loggias. Such blinds are perfectly cleaned and do not accumulate static electricity.
Wooden blinds
This is a rather expensive pleasure ($ 66–130 per sq.m). But they have many advantages: the material is natural, environmentally friendly, durable. As a rule, these are strong light wood species (Canadian linden, cork), processed using special technology.
The vertical lamel of wooden blinds consists of many thin strips of wood connected by threads to the canvas. It’s very easy to take care of these blinds - just vacuum it.
Metal blinds
They are found on sale quite rarely: they are used mainly in industrial premises. These blinds are easy to care for, not exposed to sunlight, covered with heat-resistant enamel. True, they say that even with a slight wind they rattle (clatter). And this, you see, not everyone will like it. The price is about $ 30 per sq.m with a lamella width of 89 mm.
What to consider when buying?
Before you buy blinds in general and vertical blinds in particular, you need to decide how exactly you will hang them. There are several options.
- Option One: blinds are mounted in the window opening.
In this case, the room seems larger, but the window sill will be occupied by lamellas and your favorite flowers will have to be moved to another place - after all, the lamellas should rotate freely.
- Option Two: blinds are lapped.
Most often - to the wall above the window (like a curtain rod for ordinary curtains) or to the ceiling.
Then the window opening is closed entirely and the flowers on the window can be left.
In any case, before buying, we advise you to carefully look to see if flower pots (and other "foreign objects" on the window sills) will interfere with opening and closing the blinds and turning the lamellas (window sill, batteries, etc.).
And further. The most important thing - when ordering blinds, correctly calculate their so-called overall dimensions. How to do it?
- The first one. If you decide to hang the blinds inside the window opening, subtract two inches from the height of the opening so that the lamellas do not lie on the windowsill.
- The second one. If you want to attach the blinds to the wall above the window, it is better that they are slightly wider and go beyond the window border by fifteen centimeters.
- The third. The distance between the floor and the blinds must be at least 5 cm.
And another important question that you need to decide before placing an order - which way will the blinds open and close? There are four options for moving lamellas when closing blinds:
- lamellas move in the direction opposite to the control rope,
- lamellas move towards the control rope,
- lamellas are moving in both directions from the center,
- lamellas converge towards the center.
Four options for the movement of lamellas when closing blinds. Keep in mind: the right choice is dictated not only by your tastes and preferences, but also by “production necessity”. For example, be sure to pay attention to whether the assembled lamellas will not interfere when you want to open the window.
Well, these recommendations are perhaps the most important thing to choose the right vertical blinds. Having decided on the size, installation and opening options, you can order. The lead time depends on the volume and complexity of the work. But on average it takes a day.
Common mistakes when ordering blinds
Deputy General Director of Osvald Alexander Kalashnikov:
- The most common mistake, or rather negligence, is when people confuse width with height. This happens if a person takes measurements on his own.
And although in our order form it is written in black and white: width ___, length ___, all the same, customers manage to enter the width instead of the length and vice versa.
Only after arriving home and attaching ready-made blinds to the window, the buyer realizes that he was mistaken and returns again to us. If something can be fixed, we, of course, do it. For example, add a few slats, and the client pays extra for them. If nothing can be fixed, you have to fulfill the order again and, of course, pay again. So be extremely careful when filling out documents.
Another rather “popular” mistake: a person wants to hang the blinds inside the window opening, but forgets to subtract 1.5 - 2 cm from the height of the opening. As a result, the curtain rod simply does not enter there, and alteration entails additional difficulties and expenses.
Therefore, we advise you not to refuse to leave a specialist at home. A professional will correctly take the sizes, tell you which blinds are better to choose, and then install them. In this case, he is fully responsible for his work during the entire warranty period, and you only accept it.
Roll blinds - the best solution for your home or cottage
The presented roll-over system is one of the varieties of roller blinds. The peculiarity of this system in its fastening, it occurs close to the glass, which does not allow the curtain to sag.
Cassette roller blinds have their advantages:
- the design is invisible and does not interfere when washing windows,
- even if the blinds are closed, you can ventilate the room,
- windowsill open for creativity. Here you can put flower pots or several antique vases,
- simplicity in leaving. It is enough to wipe roller blinds several times a month,
- perfectly cope with protection from sunlight.
The presented roller blinds are attached as follows:
the fabric of the roller blind is under a plastic or aluminum box, and such a system can only be mounted on the sash of a plastic window.
Cassette roll curtains rollight have a maximum width of one and a half meters. The height can reach 2 meters. In the manufacture of used special fabric, which protects the room from the penetration of light rays and is not prone to fading. Blinds rolllight are rather durable and unpretentious. All elements of this system are made of aluminum.
How to install blinds on PVC windows?
The method of fastening the blinds to plastic windows is selected depending on the design features and the purpose of installing them in the room.
Roll-up and horizontal blinds are fastened to the frame, covering only the glass of the windows.
This method allows the flaps to be closed freely, either individually or together. With vertical blinds, closing the shutters separately is not possible due to the fact that they are mounted on the surface of the ceiling (wall) and floor.
But this mount has its own positive side: the continuous closure of the window opening masks its geometric irregularities.
Installation of horizontal blinds on windows
The sequence of installation operations:
- The marking of the mounting points of horizontal blinds on the frame under the brackets.
- Drilling holes for dowels.
- Carefully securing the brackets with dowels on the frame.
Note: for the opening sash, holes for fixing brackets are not required. Instead, they use special clamps.
How to remove the blinds
There may be a problem with the dismantling of horizontal blinds if you do not follow the following procedure for this operation:
- The decorative cover (if any) is removed from the attachment points of the fixing brackets.
- Cornices are exempt from brackets.
- The lamellas are lifted until the latches located on the upper edge appear.
- The latches are removed by pulling toward you and to the right.
- The lamels pulled to themselves fall back to their former places.
If everything is done neatly and correctly, the regulating system is quite easy to separate from the fixing brackets. In case of unsuccessful dismantling, you can try to detach the system from the frame, without separating it from the brackets.
To do this, the method of fixing the blinds to the frame (with or without additional mounting corners) is checked. If any, then you can try to detach them from the frame. Corners are usually fixed on the frame with hexagonal screws. To remove them, you will need the appropriate key to unscrew such bolts. After separating the corners, the blinds can be removed from the window.
Warning: in advance, before performing operations to remove the blinds, you should carefully familiarize yourself with the removable brackets and the mechanism of their functioning. They are usually secured by turning the key in a clockwise direction. And in order to remove the structure, it is necessary, accordingly, to rotate it in the opposite direction.
