We have decided on the equipment for creating sliding gates, now let's calculate how much the sliding gates (sliding / entry) will cost. Like any builder, you need an estimate, that is, the cost of materials for the manufacture of gates.

We take materials for ordinary sliding gates with an opening of 4 m. They can be freely bought at the metal warehouse, market or in the hypermarket. Of course, all of the materials described below can be replaced with others that you like more and seem more appropriate, reliable, cheap, etc.

For the manufacture of concrete to strengthen the "mortgage gate", we need:

  • 3 buckets of rubble,
  • 3 buckets of sand
  • 1 bucket of cement.

The foundation for the mortgage (channel)

For the manufacture of an external gate frame, a profile pipe 60x40x2 mm is used, the lathing is made of a pipe 20x20x1.5 mm.

We decided on the materials for automatic sliding gates with our own hands. We proceed to their production. It all starts with the foundation under the mortgage.

"Mortgage" - a channel half the length of the opening of the sliding gate and a width of 16-20 cm. If the opening is 4 meters, then the channel 4 * 0.5 = 2 meters. On the channel itself, 8-10 legs are welded one meter long from reinforcement with a diameter of 10-14 mm. A hole is made under the channel 1 m deep, with a width of 30 cm, approximately the width of a shovel (stock for the channel is 20 cm), and a little longer than the channel, 2.2 meters long.

We make concrete from sand, cement and crushed stone with our own hands. It will take 100-150 kg of cement, 300-450 kg of gravel and 300-450 kg of sand. Cement is calculated in a ratio of about 1: 6. We pour concrete in such a way that we get one level with the channel, otherwise water will collect in the hole.

The foundation needs to dry and stand for a week. At this time, you need to choose components (accessories) and make a sliding gate with your own hands.

It is necessary to have enough space for the gate to roll back, and if it is not enough, then installation will be impossible.

For fastening the upper rollers and catchers, it is convenient to use a pipe 60 * 30 mm. This pipe is installed at the height of the column and at the place of fixture of the fittings.

In order not to concrete with a column, channel, it is better to remove 3 reinforcing bars from the column and weld a 60 * 30 pipe to them, about the height of a column. You can also strengthen the fasteners with anchors. Attaching this pipe only to anchors is not correct. Anchors fastened in brick quickly loose and fall out.

Such a pipe can still be concreted with the channel or with a column to the depth of freezing of the soil (1 m). In this case, the installation will be reliable, labor costs will increase greatly (which is not justified).

Over time, it will be convenient to attach the catcher to these upper rollers on these embedded ones. They put the gates on the carriages, and the top rollers were installed directly on top and welded.

You can weld to the embedded pipe with corners or small segments from the angular profile of steel. Such mortgages can be tinted in the color of the gate.

If you did not make such embedded pipes, you would have to either accurately remove the reinforcement from the column under the rollers and the catcher (which is difficult), or attach it to anchors, and this is unreliable.

How to choose accessories (accessories) for sliding gates?

The foundation and mortgage are prepared. Now you need to choose the accessories (accessories) for the sliding gates:

When choosing components (mechanism), it is necessary to determine the length of the beam (this is the guide rail). Choose it from the calculation of 1.5 gate width. If there is no room for a rollback, you can take 1/3 more than the width of the gate.

Gate components (opening mechanism) are designed for a specific weight, up to 400 kg or up to 800 kg. If corrugated board is selected for metal gates, it is possible to take weighing up to 400 kg. If difficult forging is chosen or heavy material is chosen for the gate, it is better to take up to 800 kg.

Accessories (mechanism) roller carriages can be with polymer or metal rollers. With proper do-it-yourself installation and careful use, they can last a long time. Polymers have advantages, for example, they are less noisy than metal ones. Polymer rollers are made, sold exclusively in Ukraine. In Europe, they are made only with metal rollers.

When buying accessories, pay attention to the quality of parts and packaging. If the parts are made competently, have a proprietary packaging, this indicates the seriousness of the manufacturer, who makes large quantities of components on excellent equipment. Beware if the fittings are in "bags" with uneven edges. This means that it is made “on the knee” and there will simply be no one to make a claim.

Making a frame for sliding gates

First you need to prepare a site for the assembly of the frame of future sliding gates. In size, this area should be no less than the gate.

Before you start assembling the frame with your own hands, you need to prepare the pipes themselves, clean them from scale and rust. Then we process them with a solvent and apply a primer. We apply anticorrosive soil with a spray gun or with a brush. The spray gun will be faster, and with a brush - thicker.

After processing and drying, we begin to weld the frame in such a way that there are no holes at the joints that water could get into (snow, rain, etc.).

Now you can start preparing the frame on which the skin will be mounted. This is a 40 * 20 * 2 mm pipe.

We place the smaller (40 * 20) pipe on the larger (50 * 50) with our own hands:

  • if you sew on one side, then we shift to the edge so that there is room for corrugated board. Well, if the sewing lies with the outer frame,
  • if we sew from 2 sides, then we place it right in the middle.

We weld the pipes every 20-30 cm in the form of chess (so that they do not "lead" from overheating). Then we process the welding places with a grinder and apply a primer.

After that, you can start painting the frame and frame. For coloring, we take alkyd enameled paint. You can paint with a brush in 2-3 layers or with a spray gun.

After the paint has dried, you can start sewing. Sewing material (wood, metal, corrugated board) is attached to the frame with self-tapping screws or rivets. For fastening with self-tapping screws, it is best to use a drill, only this way it will be easier to work.

DIY gate installation

It is best to weld the carriages so that, in case of any problems, you can cut them off.

On the prepared foundation (channel) we place roller carriages at a great distance from each other. We put a gate on them (the rollers must be threaded into the guide beam). After level measurement, weld the carriage on the channel.

It is important to note that many people use anchors or bolts (there are holes on the roller carriages) for fastening the carriages to the channel channel. This is not true. The process itself is time-consuming and takes a lot of time. It usually takes a few days to cut holes. If you make a mistake of at least 1 mm, you will have to cut off all the bolts and start work again. Carriages are welded on gates up to 800 kg, and on corrugated gates - up to 400 kg.

We fix the rest of the components (accessories) on pre-prepared mortgages 60 * 30 mm, fixed with fittings.

An end roller is placed on the end of the guide rail (it has a clip). The guide rail must be closed from 2 sides with plugs.

After fitting, level measurement, we add the carriage.

Sliding gate operator

The drive has high reliability, speed and convenience of closing / opening automatic gates. The high demand for these designs can be explained by the ease of control and installation of automation and high performance.

Gate opening mechanisms are electromechanical and hydraulic. The sliding gate drive is relevant for country houses, cottages, garages. The gates are opened remotely by remote control, which simplifies their use. The drive for sliding gates has a simple device: pinion gear, electric motor and gearbox.

The drive is selected taking into account the weight of the door leaf. All-metal flaps require a more powerful drive than latticework. It is important to consider the wind load. Technically, sliding gates consist of several main parts:

  • Canvas. This is a decorative element, which is the gate itself. It can be made from almost any material. But most often, metal pipes, fittings and steel sheets are used for this.
  • Frame. This design is a metal support, which is often hidden in the ground.Only a small layer of metal acts on top, on which the entire sash rests during movement. They are made of metal channels, providing durability and strength.

  • Guide and support rollers. Using these elements, the movement of the web in space is performed. The design of these mechanisms may vary depending on the manufacturer and type of gate.
  • Electric drive. This mechanism is optional, since the gate can move without it. But if you do not want to exert physical effort for this, you can install an electric motor.

Depending on the mode of operation, sliding gates are divided into several types:

  • Outboard. A feature of designs with a top suspension is that all mechanisms are mounted at the top of the frame. Externally, the systems resemble a metal frame, but the supporting elements are already in limbo. Use suspended gates only at industrial facilities, since their installation is very expensive and complicated.
  • Cantilever. This type of gate is used everywhere today. The canvas of such structures moves on rollers that are attached to a metal support. Installation of such structures is possible almost anywhere where there is space for the location of the sash.

  • Rail. This mechanism resembles the previous type of gate. But here, the movement of the sash is already carried out on the rail, which is mounted in the soil. A feature of such gates is that they are not afraid of mechanical effects on the sliding system.

Necessary fittings

Properly selected fittings will ensure long-term and reliable operation of sliding gates. For their functioning you will need a standard set of mechanisms, including such elements:

  • Channel. Often they form a support for the rollers. The length and dimensions are selected depending on the weight of the gate.
  • Bearing profile. Outwardly, it resembles a profile pipe, but in one of the sides a slot is made for the rollers, which should be located inside. This mechanism is made of durable metal that can withstand loads and does not give in to bending. This structure is attached directly to the lower end of the web.

  • Roller bearings and carriages. The first part is a plate that is attached to the foundation with special bolts. The carriages are also fixed to the supports with several connections. This element and perceives the main load.
  • Supporting rollers. Their purpose is to minimize fluctuations. They are mounted on top of the support post. The system assumes the presence of 2 or 4 rollers, between which the sash moves, without shifting to the side.

  • Catchers. They are mounted on opposite support pillars. Need traps for fixing the canvas in the closed position. They make products from high-quality galvanized steel.
  • Knurled roller. They fasten it at the end of the gate so that when closing it is docked with the trap and as if ran over it.
  • Automation. This element is not always present, but today it is increasingly being used. This kit includes an electric motor, as well as a drive that transfers force from it to the blade.

Some modifications can be supplemented by special controllers that allow you to control the movement of the gate from a distance.

How to choose?

The modern market offers many components for various types of sliding gates. All of them are distinguished by quality and purpose, therefore It is important to choose the right system for certain situations.

In order to acquire reliable products, it is important to pay attention to several key criteria:

Support beam parameters

Experts recommend giving preference to supports in which the walls have a thickness of at least 4 mm. If the weight of the canvas exceeds 800 kg, then this figure is desirable to increase to 5-6 mm. All beam surfaces must be quality treated or protected by special formulations (zinc and so on).

The best material is structural steel.

The beam section should be uniform, and there should be no burrs or chips on the surface of the faces. This will allow the rollers to glide with minimal friction. The structure itself should weigh about 1.5 times more than the gate itself. Thus, an optimal level of work is ensured, regardless of climatic and other conditions.

What is included?

Sliding gates are practical, as the sash moves parallel to the main fence, not taking up space in front of the entrance. Therefore, they are used to equip checkpoints at industrial or business enterprises.

Today, there are several types of similar designs that differ in technical nuances. But, regardless of this, such a system consists of several main components:

  • Mortgage. It is an ordinary metal channel, which is located in the soil. To give strength to it reinforcing bars are welded. Outwardly, this entire structure resembles the letter “P”, which is concreted in a trench. The length of such a system is half the size of the opening. Cantilever and overhead gates are not equipped with such elements.

  • Bearing profile. The element is a kind of guide, because the rollers move inside it. Externally, the product resembles a conventional channel, but differs in curved ends. This prevents the rollers from popping out of the groove. Fasten the profile to the bottom of the canvas. The material lends itself to high loads, so the element is made of high-quality and durable steel.

  • Roller carriage. The design consists of several support rollers that are attached to the channel. These products allow you to move the canvas along a straight line. There are several types of carriages, as they are calculated according to the specific weight of the canvas. The main material is metal, but some manufacturers use special plastic in their manufacture.

  • Supporting rollers. The main objective of the rollers is to support the blade in an upright position. They act as original guides that are mounted on top of the sash. Depending on the design, the system can be equipped with two or four support rollers. To reduce pressure and minimize friction, they are made of plastic.

  • Catchers. They are divided into upper and lower systems. The first type is intended to limit the movement of the web perpendicular to its main plane. In a simple way, with the help of the upper catchers protect the structure from strong wind in the closed position. The lower structures are used to support the web. When moving, it runs over the trap from above, which partially perceives the load.
  • Knurling roller. It is mounted on the lower corner of the canvas so that it falls on the lower trap. They make products from various materials, but in most cases they use plastic.

  • Stubs. These elements are used to close the voids of the guide tube. This approach eliminates the ingress of water, debris or snow. In turn, such protection extends the service life of the system by several times, and also does not allow ice to form on moving rollers.
  • Canvas gate. Almost always, sashes are made of durable metal pipes that can withstand maximum loads and weight.

Theoretically, you can use almost any type of canvas, the main thing is to choose all the other components correctly.

Today, sliding gates are often equipped with automatic movement systems. Automation is not a required attribute, but it is present almost always. This system consists of several main devices:

  • Electric motor This mechanism is the main one, and it is precisely this mechanism that sets the web in motion. Install it on a concrete base, and also supplement with special protective covers to prevent moisture and debris. Some models can be controlled remotely, which gives many advantages, allowing almost completely to exclude human participation in the gate.

  • Limit switches. The main objective of such mechanisms is to control the operation of the electric motor. Technically, these are peculiar relays that turn off the current supply when the gate reaches the end point.
  • Protective block. The system consists of many electrical nodes that are interconnected by various connections. The main task is to control the operation of the electric motor, as well as preventing its overload during operation.

Initially, during the installation of sliding gates, the foundation is poured, it is based on channels (metal profiles welded to each other in the shape of the letter "P"), to which pipes and fittings are welded. Console
